Meet Your Instructor: Shawn Theis
Shawn Theis — Director, The Columbiana Arts Theater
Shawn Theis brings a unique perspective to audition preparation because he has experienced theater from nearly every side of the stage — as a student, professional performer, director, producer, and educator.
Shawn began his theater training as a BFA Musical Theater student at Otterbein College and graduated with a B.A. in Theater. During his college training, he studied the many disciplines that come together to create a successful theatrical production, including acting, singing, dance, directing, producing, set and lighting design, wardrobe, marketing, and sales.
Following college, Shawn spent many years as a professional actor, performing in regional and dinner theaters throughout the United States and internationally aboard a cruise ship.
He later spent over a decade serving as a Worship Pastor, continuing to develop his skills as a vocalist, musician, leader, and teacher. Shawn is a classically trained tenor, reads music, and has a background in dance.
Today, as Director of The Columbiana Arts Theater, Shawn continues to work directly with performers and productions.
Why Learn from Shawn?
Shawn's goal isn't simply to teach you how to get through an audition.
It's to help you understand what happens on both sides of the audition table.
You'll learn how to prepare your voice, your character, your material, and yourself — while gaining insight into the things directors and auditioners are looking for when they meet a performer.
The result is practical, personalized training you can take with you into your next audition and every audition after that.
